Hootle Featherton’s Birdsfoot Trefoil & Red Clover GrowTub

Grow a mini wildflower meadow for insects, small mammals and night-time hunters with Hootle Featherton — your silent-swooping owl Growimal friend.
Perfect for kids, families, eco-heroes and anyone who loves owls, wildlife and mess-free planting fun.

Meet Hootle Featherton

Hoot hoot, only me! Hootle Featherton is a master of silent swooping, with super-hearing, precision talons, and feathers perfectly shaped for stealth flight. With a head that can spin 270°, Hootle is the ultimate nocturnal navigator — but even top-class hunters need thriving habitats to survive.

When insects disappear and small mammals lose their homes, owls struggle to find enough food. That’s why Hootle needs your help to grow the plants that support a healthy wild ecosystem.

Each GrowTub includes a personal letter from Hootle, inviting you to become a Habitat Hero and help replant the world — one mini meadow at a time.

What is a GrowTub?

GrowTubs are character-themed growing kits designed to be fun, simple and completely zero-waste. Every component is reusable, recyclable or home-compostable, so once your plants are grown nothing harmful is left behind — no plastic pots, no rubbish, no waste.

Each GrowTub features a different Growimal with seeds specially chosen to support that creature’s real-world habitat.

What’s Inside

  • Seeds
  • Peat-free soil (coir)
  • Certified home-compostable inner pot
  • Simple growing guide
  • Character pot insert
  • Celebration sticker

Everything is packed inside a beautifully illustrated cardboard GrowTub. Once your seeds are planted, you can reuse the tub in all sorts of creative ways.

What You’ll Grow: Birdsfoot Trefoil & Red Clover

Your Super Seed Pack contains:

  • Birdsfoot trefoil — a low-growing, bright yellow wildflower rich in nectar, loved by bees and essential for many caterpillars.
  • Red clover — a classic meadow plant that boosts soil health and provides nectar for bees and butterflies.

This duo is chosen so that at least one plant will germinate on a windowsill year-round, with red clover usually appearing first. Both thrive outdoors in spring and summer, creating a colourful, wildlife-friendly patch once planted out.

Why These Plants Help Owls (and Their Prey)

Owls depend on healthy populations of insects, mice, voles and small mammals.
Birdsfoot trefoil and red clover help rebuild the base of that food chain:

  • They create nectar-rich feeding stations for insects
  • More insects support more caterpillars and beetles
  • Those creatures help sustain small mammals
  • Owls rely on those mammals for food

A tiny wildflower patch grown on your windowsill can help restore the habitat owls need to thrive.

Why Children and Adults Love This GrowTub

Simple Planting Steps

Your Grow Guide includes clear, child-friendly instructions. Planting a GrowTub is designed for joy, discovery and circularity — every component can be composted, recycled or reused.

  1. Add water to the soil (coir) disc.
  2. Sow the Birdsfoot trefoil and sprinkle the red clover across the surface.
  3. Wait while the seeds wake up — use the QR code to learn what’s happening under the soil.
  4. Look for shoots after a few days to a week.
  5. Keep the pot in a bright spot and turn occasionally for even growth.
  6. When the plants outgrow the GrowTub, plant them outside in spring or summer.

Eco Impact

Birdsfoot trefoil and red clover support diverse wildlife:

  • Nectar for bees, butterflies and pollinators
  • Leaves for caterpillars
  • A food source for beetles and other insects
  • Ground cover for small mammals
  • A stronger food chain for owls

Even a tiny meadow helps restore the habitats that many species now struggle to find.

Why Owls Matter

Owls are essential night-time hunters that help keep ecosystems balanced. They control rodent populations, rely on diverse prey, and depend on healthy, connected habitats.

But their food sources decline when:

  • Wildflower meadows vanish
  • Insects become scarce
  • Small mammals lose shelter
  • Landscapes become fragmented

By planting Hootle’s wildflower duo, you support the prey species owls rely on, helping protect these magnificent nocturnal birds.

How You Grow Matters

GrowTubs return to the soil with nothing wasted. Plastic pots, by contrast, can last 200–500 years and shed microplastics as they break down.

By choosing a compostable pot, you’re making habitat — not waste.
It’s a far better choice for owls, insects and the planet.

Ideal as a Gift

A wonderful gift for nature-loving children, owl fans, budding ecologists and anyone who finds magic in night-time wildlife.
Great for birthdays, nature clubs, school projects or mindful family time.
